INFORMATION FROM YOUR PEDIATRICIAN
Cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to rise globally. In Utah, we have had 2 cases identified of people who have been exposed outside of Utah. Currently there is no community spread in Utah, however it is likely that it will happen in the future.
We are reassured that children seem to be less severely affected by Coronavirus. Affected infants and young children often have mild viral symptoms or no symptoms. Despite that, it is important to recognize that children can be carriers of the Coronavirus and may pass on the infection to higher risk patients. It is important to minimize spread by staying home if you or your child are sick, washing hands frequently, avoiding public places, and covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
We have updated our policies to reflect CDC recommendations. We will be asking screening questions when you call to schedule a sick visit with respiratory concerns. Please understand that this is important for us to triage high risk patients and will not be used to discriminate in any way.
We are currently unable to test for coronavirus in our clinic, but will be working with the Health Department to identify how to make testing possible. We are also looking into options for telemedicine for non-urgent follow ups to minimize your risk of exposure. We will update you when more information is available.
